Simple, Sleek & Stylish – The Flash drive MP3 player
from: Ian RichardsonYou have decided to get yourself one of those cute and functional MP3 players and now you are wondering which one is the right one for you. Well, if you are weighing up the options between a flash drive MP3 player and the standard hard disk MP3 players, here’s a little help.
A hard disk or a flash drive MP3 player?
This is probably one of the first questions you have to ask yourself. Do you want a flash drive MP3 player or you would prefer one of the usual hard disk MP3 players. Let us see the basic advantages and disadvantages of both:
- A flash drive MP3 player has no moving parts thus it is much more reliable i.e. it is less likely the player will break down.
- A flash drive MP3 player is shock proof just because of the reason described above. A hard drive MP3 player may cause your song to skip if used in the gym or during another strenuous activity.
- A hard drive MP3 player can hold more songs than a flash drive MP3 player can.
- On the other hand, you can have a flash drive MP3 player with 1 GB space and that is huge indeed.
- A flash drive MP3 player will be lighter and smaller than a hard disk MP3 player will.
How about a flash drive MP3 player built into a cell phone.
So you have heard about those cell phones that have a flash drive MP3 player built in. Yes, this is an option however a costly one. Since this is relatively new stuff, these gadgets will cost much more than buying a flash drive MP3 player and a cell phone separately. You had better wait until their prices drop (which will certainly happen as with all new tech stuff).
What about the cost?
The cost of any MP3 player depends on many factors and the brand, not that much on the type. In general, several things influence the price of both hard disk and a flash drive MP3 player. The first thing is the storage space. A player with 64 MB storage space can cost $50 while a player with 256 MB space can be double. The good thing is that above certain level the price difference is quite small, for example if you can buy a 512 MB flash drive MP3 player for $100 the 1 GB will cost $150. Another important factor is the music files supported. You may come across a MP3 player that supports several music file formats, but what you really need is MP3 and WMA. Of course, if there is a specific file format that your hard disk or flash drive MP3 player should support than you should look for it. The next feature that may influence the price is the battery – is it replaceable or rechargeable one. Than come the rest of the added features such as equalizers, bass boost, color display, FM/AM tuner, shuffle or repeat function, anti shock system, etc. in fact you will not need many of these so don’t be tempted to spend more money just because of features you’ll never use.
