Sansa e130 512MB MP3 Player
SanDisk is a well known company for many computer users for producing flash memory cards. They have recently introduced a new line, Sansa, featuring lightweight flash-based MP3 players. Both the e130 and e140 models support MP3 and WMA file formats and have USB 2.0 interfaces for quick downloads.
The unit
The Sansa e130 512MB MP3 player is a small and lightweight model, measuring just 2.9'' x 2.17'' x 0.55'' and weighing no more than 1.4 ounces without battery. You can hold up to 120 MP3 files and can play up to 17 hours non-stop with one AAA battery. Along with your 512MB MP3 player, you also get a transparent carrying case, stereo headphones, a black armband, an AAA battery, an USB 2.0 cable and a user guide and CD. The headphones are not ear buds, as the manufacturer prefers in-ear designs, which are more comfortable and reduce background noise.
Features
Both the 512MB MP3 player and the 1GB model provide an enhanced audio quality, with 3D surrounding sound. The graphic equalizer features five presets, as well as a custom mode that you can adjust. The small design and lightweight makes it ideal to use while working out. The device also includes a stopwatch working in the background while you listen to music, as well as an FM tuner. The FM tuner runs well outdoors, but you can hit some reception problems while indoors.
Included CD
The small CD includes a software package for managing music that gives you access to an online library with over 850,000 songs and another library with audio books, magazines, newspapers and radio programs. AudioFeast provides you with music, sports and news on your 512MB MP3 player and you also get a 60-day trial and pay just $3.99 a month afterwards.
USB cable
Although the 512MB MP3 player has a small memory, it does include a card slot that allows you to add up to 2GB of additional storage space. The short USB 2.0 cable is a simple device to let you download music from your PC. After you've plugged it, the system will recognize it as an additional drive.
Buttons & functions
The 512MB MP3 player from SanDisk is also easy to use. The Menu button on the right side allows you to turn the player on and off, as well as enable menu features. The thumb-wheel on the right side is used for adjusting the volume and scrolling through menu items. The Hold button prevents the player from being changed by pushing some other button by mistake. The face features a few tactile buttons with positive feedback when touched.
All in all, the Sansa e130 512MB MP3 player is a lightweight and compact device, ideal for outdoor activities, as well as working out. The user interface is pretty basic and you can figure out how it works without even using the manual. Navigating through the menu is also easy and the audio performance is great. The blue back-lit screen is easy to read. The only drawback is that the player doesn't support play-lists, a feature that will hopefully be added in the near future.
