Digital MP3 Player
from: Ian RichardsonThere are many types of MP3 players available on the market today. Making the right choice depends upon several factors, such as how you will use it, what amount of music you need to carry with it and how much you can afford to pay. Here are a few types of digital MP3 players, varying upon memory type:
Flash Memory Digital MP3 Player
This is the smallest and lightest type of digital MP3 players. However, they can generally store less music than other types. This digital MP3 player is ideal for that type of user who just wants to listen to some music on the way to school or during a morning jog. One of its main advantages is that by being so small, its batteries also last longer.
Hard Drive Digital MP3 Player
Hard drive MP3 players are generally bigger and heavier and can also provide more storage space and more built-in features. If you want to store your whole music collection, this digital MP3 player is ideal for you. However, as it includes some moving parts as well, it usually does some skipping while in movement. Their main drawback is that the hard drive and features consume more battery power. Generally batteries can last between 8 and 20 hours.
MP3 CD Player
For those of you who are nostalgic for old-fashioned CD players, a digital MP3 player that works with CDs is a good option. These devices play MP3 files that are burned on CD-R/RW and you can also use your CD collection. You can store about 10 hours of music on a CD. However, if you purchase such devices, you might also need a CD writer.
This type of digital MP3 players is usually cheaper than the previous two. However, as with most CD players, the main problem with these devices is that they may skip when they are moved. They are also larger and heavier than other types of digital MP3 players.
Mini-Disc Digital MP3 Player
The big fans of the mini-disc technology can now enjoy the new-and-improved models of mini-disc digital MP3 players. In spring 2005, Sony launched a new Hi-MD technology digital MP3 player with a 1GB disk that allows you to store up to 45 hours of music. These players also support WMA and WAV formats, as well as other transfer loads of computer data files, such as PowerPoint presentations or spreadsheets. The price of a 1GB Hi-MD is around $7 and it's rewritable. You can get 30-50 hours of playtime or even more with a single AA battery.
Hybrid Digital MP3 Player
MP3 is now more than a stand-alone technology. Many technology companies also provide other products with an MP3 capability, such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), DVD players or even sunglasses.
The digital MP3 player technology is being constantly improved and you can expect more advanced models to show up every day. There is a device that can respond to virtually any expectations. However, the price that you are willing to pay for is also something you have to consider.
